Digitization in the building sector has been booming in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in the past two years. This evolution has also been confirmed by the recent Rifkin study, which demonstrates that the third industrial revolution calls for digitization. The building sector constitutes an important pillar in this regard.
With a view to this continuing development, more than 200 professionals in the building sector met on Wednesday, 16 November 2016 at the Chambre des Métiers for a conference on “BIM and its application in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg” organised by the CRTI-B GIE in collaboration with Neobuild, OAI and LIST. The CRTI-B (centre for technology and innovation resources for the building sector), as the main platform bringing together all the players in the construction sector, has the task of standardising, innovating and improving the overall quality of building in the Grand Duchy. This general objective includes its current role as a driving force in the current ®evolution in the Grand Duchy.
Building more, better, cheaper, and sustainably
In his introduction, Minister for Sustainable Development and Infrastructure François Bausch stressed that BIM is the tool which will very soon revolutionise building. BIM will allow to build more, better, and cheaper, and avoid wasting resources, making it possible to pursue the aims of sustainable building and contribute to the circular economy. The authorities have already adopted this new approach in carrying out a number of pilot projects. BIM will enable all stakeholders to be more competitive on the national and international market. To promote this positive evolution, the Government has undertaken to support current BIM initiatives.
”Digitisation is an opportunity for all sectors of the economy, and I am pleased to be accompanying this revolutionary change that is being introduced. No sector of the economy can escape digitisation: FinTech, smart mobility and e-health are just some examples. I am very pleased today to see that the building sector is becoming involved in these efforts to modernise and digitise the country. That is why I am convinced that it is necessary to set up a roadmap to accompany and accelerate the digital transition of the building sector, ” said François Bausch.
Main purpose of the conference: to present the state of progress of BIM in the Grand Duchy
A number of working groups within the CRTI-B are currently developing the various documents and protocols necessary for the proper implementation of BIM in the Grand Duchy.
Another part of the conference was devoted to feedback from national and international stakeholders. Other topics were also addressed: the vision of the national order of architects and engineering consultants (Ordre des architectes et ingénieurs-conseils – OAI), the prospects as seen by the public buildings agency (Administration des bâtiments publics), and training courses available at the LUSCI training centre.
The conference ended with a number of themed discussion groups in which participants were able to put specific questions to members of the CRTI-B working groups.
In view of the amount of interest generated by the event, another conference is to be held in 2017.
