going beyond the hype at ICT Spring 2018

On May 15-16, the European Convention Center Luxembourg transformed into a mecca for ICT professionals, startups, innovators and public officials. ICT Spring, an annual, large-scale conference in Kirchberg, brought them together for two days of roundtables, speeches, presentations and discovery.

Digital Luxembourg was among the exhibitors present at the event, informing passerby and curious companies what Luxembourg has to offer in terms of its ecosystem, infrastructure, programs and beyond.

The four-part conference included a Digital Summit, Fintech Summit, Space Forum & AI Summit — themes that are not only at the forefront of discussions in Luxembourg, but across the world. Blockchain, smart cities, responsible AI, PSD2 and Earth observation represent some of the fascinating topics that each session offered.

Speakers spanned big four managers, government experts, researchers and inventors, all offering unique perspectives that let listeners go behind the hype surrounding these hot topics.

Over 5,000 attendees and 500 companies from 72+ countries made ICT Spring another lively, international affair.

Prime Minister Xavier Bettel kicked off the two days with a speech on Luxembourg’s openness and technology’s potential for every individual, as well as the importance of e-skills and GDPR. Luxembourg Minister of Finance Pierre Gramegna got day two rolling with a speech of his own.

At the gala dinner, Japanese startup Empath took home the €50,000 Pitch Your Startup grand prize for its AI technology that can detect and identify emotions in the human voice. Another side event was a speed hackathon focused on public service delivery. Everyone from students to civil servants to citizens were welcome to this energetic three-hour session.

Between the multitude of booths, cocktail hours, gala dinner and panel discussions, attendees connected and reconnected with other members of the technological realm at what has become a Luxembourgish tradition: ICT Spring.
