Largowind: stay the course, even from afar

Founded in April 2016, Largowind is a marine leisure start-up whose flagship product is a device for monitoring boats remotely. We caught up with its founder, Mathilde Argaud.

How did the idea of creating Largowind come about?

Largowind is a father-daughter business inspired by a passion for boats and private enterprise.

Following the boom in connected objects and related services, we saw a gap in the market and came up with the idea of founding LargoWind. Our first product, Connected Rope®, allows the user to access vital data relating to his or her boat at any time from a smartphone, tablet or computer.

We began our journey at a “Startup Weekend” in Luxembourg which was a very exciting moment as it represented a dream come true for us.

What achievements are you particularly proud of to date?

We are especially proud of having turned what was merely an idea into an actual product that we were able to present at the international B2B Metstrade show in Amsterdam in the space of just a few months.

The swift progress we have made in a relatively short time would not have been possible without the mentorship of the Fit4Start Acceleration Programme and of course the drive and energy of the “Largo Team” each step of the way.

What are your plans for the future?

We will be organising a crowdfunding campaign in the very near future and have also approached investors about sourcing funding. The goal is to be able to finish the design and then launch production of a pilot series of products so that we can perform the final field tests on a larger scale with the help of beta-testers. Once these final adjustments have been made, we will then be free to focus on marketing the product.

What is your favourite thing about Luxembourg?

The country’s entrepreneurial spirit: we are lucky to have everything we need to succeed at our fingertips here. The Technoport in Belval and the Fit4Start programme are perfect examples of this entrepreneurial spirit which makes Luxembourg the envy of its neighbours.
