12 libraries in Luxembourg will henceforth make available to their readers some 80,000 digital books in German, French and English. The new ebooks.lu service is available from the National Library and its itinerant branch, the Bicherbus.
To use the service, simply register as a reader in one of the participating libraries. A list of these libraries can be viewed on the ebooks.lu web site. The service arose from a joint initiative of Conseil supérieur des bibliothèques publiques (CSBP) and the National Library of Luxembourg (BnL). A pilot project for the service was launched in June 2015.
Before the inception of ebooks.lu, Département du Consortium Luxembourg already ran an electronic publication service featuring 53,000 electronic periodicals, 93,500 scientific ebooks and more than 370 specialised databases, financed by the National Library, the University of Luxembourg and the country’s public research centres. ebooks.lu extends this offering and makes it available to members of the public.
