The bibnet.lu network of the Grand Duchy’s libraries has just completed a makeover of its website. Visitors will find a more ergonomic, user-friendly interface guiding them to general information about the life of the network and its news. They will be able to find out about how to join, the training courses available, and the principles and rules to follow when cataloguing. This makes the new site a valuable tool for professionals as well as offering an overview of the bibnet.lu network.
The bibnet.lu network currently has more than 72 members, with a variety of profiles, including libraries belonging to cultural institutes, university and school libraries, and public and specialised libraries. The network’s members feed into a common collective catalogue and use the corresponding services and tools. They follow standardised librarianship norms and protocols that are compatible with international standards.
The Grand Duchy’s bibnet.lu libraries network is coordinated by the National Library (Bibliothèque nationale – BnL). The BnL not only manages the network and more importantly provides its maintenance, but also develops the IT and management tools used by the libraries in the network. This work is carried out in cooperation with the State’s IT technologies centre (Centre des technologies de l’information de l’Etat – CTIE).
The resources held by member libraries can be accessed via a common collective catalogue that can be consulted using the a-z.lu unified search tool.
