Since January 2017, the Intellectual Property Office run by the Ministry of the Economy has been using the Benelux Patent Platform (BPP) for the administrative management of patents for inventions.
This computerised platform, which may be accessed via patent.public.lu, is intended to support all the procedures involved in managing patents for inventions, ranging from lodging an application, the issue procedure, keeping patents in force, updating the register, and publications.
The ‘eRegister’ module uses the data in the public patents register and makes it possible, without any preliminaries, to view a patent online. Patent application documents will be available online for all new applications made as from January 2017 onwards.
Two further modules will also be made available in the coming months. The ‘eFiling’ module will enable businesses and individuals (whether Luxembourgish or not) to lodge their application for a patent online, while the ‘MyPage’ module will enable patent holders or their agents to keep an eye on their patents and to manage payment of the corresponding fees.
