Welcome to Digital Luxembourg’s " What The Tech?!" series! As the tech landscape gets vaster and more advanced by the second, most sectors are turning towards tech solutions to provide 21st century services. Stay in the know this summer as we break it down for you tech-by-tech, and show you the Luxembourg innovators making technology happen.
This Week: Healthtech
The global healthcare sector is undergoing a transformation.
Significant investment is being made in processes and technologies that improve medical care, reduce costs, increase efficiency, assimilate crucial data and bridge the gap between health professionals and patients.
Most of us have likely benefited from healthtech at some point in our lives: whether in the form of wearable devices, such as a Fitbits, appointment scheduling apps like Doctena, state-of-the-art prosthetic limbs, or hospital lightbulbs that disinfect and kill bacteria.
The IoMT (Internet of Medical Things) is set to explode in the next few years. We have already seen ingenious advancements in telemedicine (remote healthcare and monitoring) and enhanced drug management (e.g. pills containing microscopic sensors that send signals to external devices to ensure correct dosage).
But this is just the beginning.
With “healthbots” getting smarter and a wave of post-GDPR innovation revolutionizing data analysis, healthtech is undoubtedly going to positively change, and save, even more lives.
Luxembourg is certainly shaping up to be a leading healthtech hub. Its Biohealth Cluster, managed by Luxinnovation, focuses on digital health, neurodegenerative diseases, molecular diagnostics and immune-oncology, while Clinnova, a healthcare innovation consortium, recently opened a Centre of Excellence.
Isn’t it comforting to know that there are people (and robots) looking out for our health? Let’s check out the innovators in the Grand Duchy who are making a difference.
