Invited by Israel’s Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister and Minister of State Xavier Bettel was in Israel from 11 to 13 September 2016. This was the first time a Luxembourg Prime Minister had visited Israel.
On 11 September, the Prime Minister, accompanied by an economic delegation, visited the JVP Lab, an incubator that mainly hosts start-ups in the fields of digital media, IT security, and data storage technologies.
The following day, Xavier Bettel attended a seminar organised by Luxembourg for Finance entitled “Luxembourg-Israël – Opportunités de partenariats en matière de FinTech” (Luxembourg -Israel: Opportunities for FinTech partnerships) at the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange. The Prime Minister addressed about two hundred representatives of the FinTech sector, talking about the potential of FinTech and the potential for its development in the Grand Duchy.
During his visit, the Prime Minister also met about twenty heads of Israeli businesses from the sectors of finance, biotechnology, the new technologies, and aerospace, with a view to increasing the potential for cooperation and intensifying trade between Israel and the Grand Duchy.
The Prime Minister also took the opportunity during his visit to take part in the ceremony to sign an academic cooperation agreement between the University of Luxembourg and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, one of the aims of which is to promote exchanges between the two universities.
