Digital4Education

In 2015, the Minister of Education, Childhood & Youth unveiled Digital4Education, a strategy for developing skills & know-how fit for the 21st century. Its mission is to prepare young people for a professional landscape of rapid & permanent change.

Through apprenticeship programs & innovative educational projects that bring digital technology to youth, the strategy will inspire future ICT experts & entrepreneurs.

Equal opportunities for innovation

The Bee Creative program, launched as part of this overarching strategy, specifically focuses on improving the digital skills of young people in Luxembourg & building a digital culture, including via the introduction of makerspaces within schools. This unprecedented accessibility to high-tech tools takes the notion of educational resources to a new level.

Hubs for the future

In 2017, the government introduced the FutureHub label to recognize secondary schools committed to new technologies. Three schools initially received this certification & serve as regional skills & training centers: Lycée des Arts et Métiers, Lycée Technique d’Esch-sur-Alzette & the future Lycée Edward Steichen in Clervaux Each of them will benefit from dedicated secondary-level ICT programs that emphasize programming, big data management, fintech & video game development.

Soon, the number of ICT trainings will increase to help solidify Luxembourg’s place in the digital economy – reminiscent of how the country prepared its population for the rise of iron & steel 120 years ago. Interested students can explore www.futurehub.lu for more on how to apply for secondary programs. FutureHubs reframe the purpose of schools as places to meet, discover & experience modern technologies.

A new sphere in education

The eduSphere project, an online teaching & learning platform, enables teachers to deliver modern, multimedia-based lessons. Initially, 350 elementary & secondary school teachers pooled their knowledge & participated in dozens of themed workshops to create the portal. The platform first aims to integrate digital resources into existing education, then serve as a tool for better teaching & lastly transform teaching altogether.
