In his opening speech, Prime minister Xavier Bettel focused on the administrations’ responsibilities and duties as regards data management under the modernized data protection legal framework. He said that the administration needs to fully embrace the digital evolution and take advantage of the tools that allow for easier and faster -while remaining safe- administrative processes. He reiterated the Government’s commitment to data protection and privacy and looked back on the successful negotiation of the new General Data Protection Regulation under the last Luxembourg EU Presidency.

Gérard Lommel, the Government commissioner for protection of State databases and host of the conference, explained to the audience how the ministries are accompanied and supported during the transition towards the new rules.

Giovanni Buttarelli, the European Data Protection Supervisor, the international guest of this event, explained the role of accountability as a significant change of paradigm introduced in the modernised European Data protection legislation. From his remarkable keynote speech the audience got useful input in how administrations should deal with data protection accountability in public administration. His colleagues from the EDPS services gave valuable feed-back of the practical implemention of data protection inside European public administration.
The Director Tine Larsen and other members of the National Data Protection Commission (CNPD) focused on several key principles of the new regulation and highlighted the future missions of the CNPD.
