ICT: your job with a future

On 15 March 2016, FEDIL, ABBL and CLC, in collaboration with ICT Luxembourg, published the results of their eighth consecutive survey on companies’ recruitment forecasts in the field of information and communication technologies (ICT).

The 2016 survey reflects substantial potential for recruitment for people with ICT qualifications over the next two years, with a total of 532 recruitments anticipated in 148 companies; 35% of these posts would be to replace staff leaving the companies, and 65% would be to fill newly-created posts. Both the number of recruitments per participating company (3.6 compared with 3.3) and the proportion of newly-created posts (65% compared with 61%) show an increase compared with the survey carried out in 2014. The latest survey confirms that the Grand Duchy’s economy is still creating jobs, particularly those requiring a high level of qualification, with an increasingly upward trend in the level of training qualifications demanded. Two years of higher education is the minimum requirement in 93% of cases, and university training is particularly sought after, accounting for 81.4% of the forecast number of jobs. Among these, specific university qualifications at the master’s and doctorate levels are clearly more sought after (51.7%) than a bachelor’s degree (29.7%), whereas in 2014 the opposite was still the case.

This year the results of the survey are being published not only in the traditional booklet form but also using new tools more in keeping with current trends among students. The project now has its own Internet site so that anyone – not only young people – can view the videos of three heads of companies active in the ICT field being interviewed, and read the booklet on-line. Targeted students are directed to this site by leaflets based on the design of the booklet. The results of the survey are available in hard copy from the various partners, and can also be consulted on-line on the Internet site at www.tic-tonjobdavenir.lu.

Several institutional partners have been involved in the project, including the Chamber of Commerce / House of Training, the Ministry of Education, Children and Youth, the Ministry of Higher Education and Research, the Ministry of Labour, Employment and the Social and Solidarity Economy, and the Employment Development Agency (Agence pour le Développement de l’Emploi – ADEM), more particularly with assistance from its EURES unit.
