Mariya Gabriel, European Commissioner with responsibility for the digital economy and society, was welcomed by the Prime Minister and Minister of State Xavier Bettel for a meeting at the Hôtel de Bourgogne on Thursday, 14 September 2017.
Their discussions covered more particularly questions on the digital single market and the European code for electronic communications. The Prime Minister recalled that “The Grand Duchy is strongly committed to the construction of the digital single market”, and stressed the need for an “ambitious digital single market to give our businesses and our citizens the advantage of the digital economy, regardless of where they live”.
The Prime Minister emphasised the Grand Duchy’s position as a “digital hub”, referring both to the installation of the data centre in Betzdorf and the signature in June this year of the agreement between the Republic of Estonia and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg on the installation of a “digital embassy” in the Grand Duchy.
