The Computer Incident Response Center Luxembourg has announced it will organise a second open-source security software hackathon on October 19 and 20, following the success of a first event staged in May.
The hackathon, one of several such events to be organised in Luxembourg this year, reflects the increased focus on cyber-security following last month’s global WannaCry ransomware attack, as well as the grand duchy’s emergence as a hub for IT innovation and collaboration.
CIRCL is a government-led initiative to provide a systematic response facility to computer security threats and incidents and provider of services including emergency response for the private sector, local authorities and non-governmental entities in the grand duchy
The organisation says the hackathon will focus on free and open-source cyber-security software, and is designed to bring together developer groups to collaborate on programming problems ranging from information-sharing, network/system forensic issues, data mining or crypto-currency challenges.
The May event brought together around 40 developers to collaborate on a range of information security software projects, and yielded substantial progress, according to CIRCL. The second hackathon is scheduled to begin following the hack.lu conference on October 19, and conference speakers and participants are welcome.
