The National Road Traffic Society moves into the digital age

Good news: the National Road Traffic Society (Société nationale de circulation automobile - SNCA) wants to make life easier for road users in the Grand Duchy. For several months now, the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Infrastructures (Ministère du Développement durable et des Infrastructures) and the State’s Information Technologies Centre (Centre des technologies de l’information de l’Etat - CTIE) have been working on this large-scale project, which is focused on the simplification and dematerialisation of a good number of procedures.

Development of online procedures

The first stage in this digitisation programme embarked on by the SNCA (“Digital First”) – covering the re-entry into service of a vehicle after being temporarily withdrawn from service, which until now involved taking or sending documents to the SNCA –  can now be carried out online, in less than one minute. This new online procedure is accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week, via MyGuichet

From early July 2016, about fifteen other SCNA procedures will be accessible online, including:

  • consultation and reservation of a personalised number plate,
  • reservation of a serial number plate,
  • withdrawal of a vehicle from service,
  • request for a duplicate driving licence or vehicle registration certificate (carte grise),
  • driving licence renewal,
  • etc.

Another helpful feature is that if the vehicle’s owner has fees to pay this can now be done directly online.

Payment of fines and consultation of balance of driving licence points

People who have been flashed by one of the new automatic radars which became operational in the Grand Duchy in March can pay their fine online, via the portal at ‘Guichet.lu’.
And if you don’t know how many points you have left on your driving licence, you can now find out on MyGuichet, in the section on your personal information.

All these new features are part of the ‘Digital Lëtzebuerg’ initiative; they are aimed at speeding up the development of constantly improving digital administration, for the benefit of the citizen.
